Ryan's company: Anime and Manga Hobby Company

The company I have developed is one that sells translated Japanese manga's, anime, and Japanese products.  We market to the Otaku culture (Look it up) and have quite a niche audience.  We want to appeal to our audience in the most obvious way possible.  Our goal is to catch their attention and let them know we're their friend.  We want customers to understand our business so our company logo reflects the Japanese culture.  We are a small company but we are a creative team of individuals either way that care for our customers.

Consider the Following when coming up with a design:  Look up "Manga company" logo, Japanese hobby, dubbing company (NOT 4Kids),  or "SoS brigade", and consider if you want it traditional black and white manga or bright and colorful as I can work around both ends.  B&W can lead to historical, and inked.  If it's colorful the colors may look better when using bright ones.  Hot pink, light blue, bright yellow, red, light green, etc

OMG WTF is going on!!!!!

My logo Design

For my logo design I decided to use the log for Steam.  I chose this because I really like the design.  The piston relates to gaming as a growing technology.  An idea I had in mind was to take this and change it so that it relates to something else that is mechanical related, like pipes or gears.  The lettering is simple but works with the rest of the design imo.  All in all it is a well designed logo that I hope to change up with my own take on it.

Wreck It Ralph "Movie Poster"

This is a movie poster from the film Wreck it Ralph, one i thoroughly enjoyed.  This poster does a great job of portraying the movie effectively and getting people interested in the concept.  The film takes place in the world of video games.  The big red 8-bit title gets your attention and focuses your eyes on the protagonist Ralph.  Video game characters that appear in the movie are placed in the background.  The characters they chose are currently established video-game icons.  This also peaks the interest of the average movie goer.  As for Ralph himself, he is towering over the other characters.  This lets you know that he is both important and gives you a general impression of what his character is like.  Overall, the Wreck It Ralph movie poster does a great job of portraying the movie to it's target audience.  I really like the way it was handled and it works quite nicely.

Impractical product: Glass Armor

Ever wanted to walk out onto the fields of battle in style?  Well too bad because this product will make your life a living hell.  Introducing "Glass Armor".  Glass armor is a special set of wear that is totally unsafe to put on.  The helmet is made of 100% pure mirror quality glass.   It bearly firs comfortably on your head.  The sholders are made with stain-glass.  the chest piecwe uses abit of both.  When the armor is on you'll look shiny.  However!  Take a blow from a weapon or hit a wall and your organs will start to bleed.

Act know and you'll get a glass sword.  It is covered with wrappings due to it breaking so much but we think you wont mind.

practical product: Cell Phone ATM

This product acts as both a highly functional cell phone as well as a portable ATM machine.  Unlike the credit-card cell phones we have seen on the market, this phone holofies money and brings it too you straight from the bank.  You never have to go to an ATM or bank to pick up a withdraw.  The phone is semi-touch based with easy to press buttons and a touch screen for making transactions, and leisure such as web-browsing.  The money is dispensed through a sizable slot on the edge of it.

The phone is also security-safe.  Or thumb print recognition based. So you don't need to worry about people using your bank account if they steal your phone.  It is slim.  however it is in fact thicker than an iphone to an extent.

comments on "How to ruin a great design"

The design they bring up in the article has bland color.  a passing cyclist may not be happy when they cycle past it.  What they mention involving the red and white sign for congestion gets the job done.  As a person who has poor eye-sight without glasses a brightly colored design is something designed in a better way than a "dirty" sign.  When designing my functional project, I may go with brighter colors that indicate important features.  When going with my impractical one, I will take the idea of dullness in mind.  Also, I am thinking about adding unnecessary features like the uppercase D in the yellow sign.

Poorly constructed designs based off of old ideas also seem to work for my impractical product.  Like the UPS redesign.  this new product might be a rework of an older one with less than what the original product had.  Same goes for taking well designed products and using them in mass.  It ruins the feeling the design had originally had  Like with the mcdonalds chair deal.  Mocking a design is a bad idea and the article seems to sit well with me.  Unnecessary changes will come into play when doing my mock-up.  Having a well conceived and highly functional design will help me in designing my "good" product.  Overall, the article seems to go in the right direction.  However, more emphasis on overly complicated designs seems to cross my path as "a bad design".  Something given less emphasis.

A few Questions to be answered:

          What is your computer experiance?

In High School I took a class that focused on animation using maya.  I also took Graphic Design one my senior year, so I have basic knowledge of how to use illustrator and photoshop.  Last semester I took Fundamentals of Programming, which gave me basic knowledge of computer programming.

                  What is your major class?

                Video Game Development and Design.

What do you hope to get out of this class?

I hope to achieve more advanced skills through the use of Adobe software.   I hope that the skills and projects I achieve in this coarse will help me get onto the right track towards video game design.  I also want to show my creativity true colors through my projects.

  Who is your favorite artist?

This is a very difficult question for me to answer.  I am a huge fan of Manga artists and Cartoonists.  However I do not have a direct favorite.  Many independent artists from sites like Deviantart are also on my list of notable artists.

Write a five line story?

There once was a man who had a great idea for a story.

He went to his boss one day and pitched the idea to see what his boss though of it.

When his boss read the idea he was disgusted.  He said the concept wouldn't sell!  It was too "niche"

This made the man upset.  He poured his body and soul into a concept he felt no person had seen take off.

After leaving the office he decided to rework his idea.  However, he always held the original concept as something dear to his heart.  Something he would develop into an amazing story, regardless of societies "social norms"
